Introducing Walker & Bing Scarves
This is where we introduce to you Walker & Bing, a New Zealand based brand with an artistic approach to scarf making. Created by artists Nikki Walker and Darya Bing, and ran from their design studio in Auckland, Walker & Bing blends a passion and refined vision for Fine Art with textile and garment making to produce scarves that are themselves a work of art. Nikki’s previous work in advertising and textile design coupled with Darya’s background in Fine Art and Fashion have undoubtedly inspired their approach to their brand. It’s clear that Nikki and Darya have a complimentary skillset and their past experience working together on commercial projects makes them a great team and this is evidenced in their products.
Walker & Bing’s collections are first and foremost born from pieces of art, creating patterns and concepts around certain themes and utilising paint, ink and print-making to bring these designs to life. This tactile approach to creating art is then transformed using modern, digital processes to refine them further in preparation for printing. This union of traditional artwork and modern day refinement makes for a truly premium product.
Bold Patterns & Colour
We love the bold patterns and use of colour found on Walker & Bing’s scarves. They range from understated, elegant pieces perfect for everyday wear such as the ‘Amy’ and ‘Tamar’ scarves, all the way to bold, geometric statement pieces like the ‘Mika’ that would be the perfect conversation starter at parties. However, Walker & Bing haven’t just stopped at scarves, they’ve expanded their offering to multi-disciplined fabric and textile creator. Their collection also includes Sarongs which are crafted with as much care and attention as their scarves, as well art pieces and stunning textiles.
Always keen to see brands who pull back the curtain and allow consumers to get to know them given this is what builds loyalty and creates a truly dedicated following. Walker & Bing have done this with their ‘Journal’ which can be found on their website. Their Journal contains articles such as an interview with the retailer Tessuti where Nikki and Dayra share their experience creating the brand, as well as discussing their values and their sources of inspiration. It’s really insightful and with creators who dedicate so much time, care and attention to their work it’s great to gain a deeper understanding of their process so you can truly appreciate the beauty of their art.
