Vegan Footwear With Stella McCartney x Adidas

Sustainability and fashion are more and more merging together as one, and this should only be considered a positive step. As we recently published with Allbirds' sugar flipflops launch, the emergence of Circular Economy principles and 'slow fashion' are both now entering mainstream designers' minds and are gradually becoming their respective brand's business models. This is a very good sign for the future and SATORI & SCOUT are really happy to promote this.

Another such example of showing sustainable awareness is that of Stella McCartney and her collaboration with Adidas. Producing and marketing a leather-free vegan-friendly edition of the world-renown Stan Smith shoe, such a design illustrates how even the biggest of fashion companies can achieve sustainable practices on a cost-effective, commercial basis. An iconic tennis shoe from the 70s, the design has retained all its traditional features of a three-lined motif on the side of a white canvas, but this time has replaced the signature stripes with an array of stars. Complete with print-decorated shoe tongues, that of Stella McCartney and Stan Smith portraits, other subtle details include a burgundy heel tab.

As McCartney explained to i-D, "...The Stan Smith sneaker is just an incredible design that has stood the test of time. I'm a fan of the original as much as almost everybody is. Now it seems like part of the furniture in footwear, a classic, but at the time it was pretty revolutionary and obviously the cutting-edge technology in tennis footwear for the athletes." Available around the world from this week onwards, such a product launch is signature of Adidas' continued efforts towards cruelty-free fashion and SATORI & SCOUT are very happy to be able to catalogue such achievements.
