Limited Edition KOIO x Ben Medansky

Fusing two unfamiliar artforms and/or materials together can create fantastic results, and this limited edition KOIO x Ben Medansky sneaker run is just that. Medansky, a ceramic artist, and KOIO, the luxury sneaker brand, have collaborated in the most subtle of ways to continue their forever-minimal style.

Inspired by Medansky' renown work, these unisex shoes are high on SATORI & SCOUT's wishlist. As KOIO explains, Medansky's approach to creating ceramic art mesmerised their design team, drawing from an industrial aesthetic but containing a human quality to give each piece an unmistakable character. Fully referencing Medanksy's work, these shoes' upper calf leather features grey speckles reminiscent of the artist's white-glazed stoneware clay, whilst the bright blue soles are his favourite colour, a strong cobalt blue. Also featuring two small pieces of ceramics, both are handmade in the artist's Los Angeles (USA) residence.

As Medansky explains, "...I approached the design process by taking elements from my own art and applying them to the sneaker. Blue is an important colour in my work because of its universal beauty which we used on the sole. The speckle on the leather was appropriated from the clay body I use that has a high iron content. I also wanted to create something that I had not seen before which led me to the ceramic accent on the laces that I call shoellery, like jewellery for the shoe.
